Wrexham AFC have signed attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare from Championship rivals Sheffield United, bringing more creativity and experience to Phil Parkinson’s squad.
The 28-year-old joins Wrexham on a permanent deal after the club acted quickly to sign one of the Championship’s top attacking midfielders. Reports suggested the agreement is for around £6.5 million, but neither club has confirmed the final fee.
O’Hare still had two years left on his Sheffield United contract and had played in their league games this season. He also scored in their last match, and his exit is a big loss for Chris Wilder’s team.
This is the signing Wrexham and Phil Parkinson have been looking for; he helps add more creativity between midfield and attack, which has been lacking in the opening fixture of the season. Parkinson’s team have earned two points from their first three Championship games, scoring three goals. O’Hare’s ability to carry the ball, finding space, and helping in attack should give the team a new edge. A former Aston Villa academy graduate, O’Hare made nine senior appearances before gaining valuable first-team experience during a loan spell at Carlisle United. His career truly took off at Coventry City, initially on loan, where he helped the Sky Blues win promotion from League One in 2019/20.
After signing permanently with Coventry, O’Hare became a key player. He bounced back from a serious knee injury to have a strong 2023/24 season, scoring over ten goals in all competitions before joining Sheffield United as a free agent in July 2024.
During his two full seasons at Sheffield United, O’Hare played in over 90 games and scored 12 goals. Eight of those league goals came in the 2025/26 season; Wrexham hope he can bring that attacking threat to North Wales.
O’Hare’s arrival is part of an ambitious deadline-day overhaul for Parkinson’s squad, coming after the signing of experienced defender Joe Worrall from Burnley. Conor Coady has left by mutual termination.
The deadline-day activity also shows Wrexham’s intent to bring in proven Championship players as they aim to go further after narrowly missing the play-offs last season.
With over 225 league appearances and more than 50 goal contributions at Coventry and Sheffield United, O’Hare is ready to make an immediate impact and could right into Parkinson’s squad for Wednesday’s trip to Millwall. O’Hare’s signing is a big statement from Wrexham and shows they aim for more than just staying in the Championship.
