Wrexham AFC are reportedly exploring a late move for HNK Rijeka attacking midfielder Toni Fruk as Phil Parkinson looks to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline, on Tuesday night, September 1st.
Football Insider’s report says that the 25-year-old Croatia international has been put forward as a possible candidate by Wrexham and Parkinson as they look for a new attacking midfielder before that September 1 deadline.
The report says that "Wrexham are looking into making a late attempt to sign the attacking midfielder Toni Fruk from HNK Rijeka before the transfer deadline", according to information given to Football Insider.
Toni Fruk has become an attractive prospect, as he can play behind a central striker and has established himself as one of the top players in Croatian football. It is reported that Wrexham believe his abilities could translate to the English game.
Last season, the attacking midfielder had a very good campaign with Rijeka, scoring 19 goals in all competitions. He also gained some European experience by taking part in the UEFA Conference League, the Champions League qualifying matches, and the Europa League.
He has maintained good form at the start of the new season, having scored one goal and provided one assist in his first three league matches, performances that are said to have attracted Wrexham's attention as the club has struggled for goals so far this season.
Parkinson's side has failed to win a game so far, and frustration from the fan base is evident on social media, with many calling for better attacking quality to finish games off. Players such as Toni Fruk could be what the manager is looking to bring in.
The Croatian has delivered more than 20 goal contributions in all competitions in each of the previous two seasons. That productivity would add creativity and a greater scoring threat to Parkinson’s side as Wrexham attempt to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.
Football Insider also confirmed that an agreement has been reached with either Rijeka or the player. At the moment, Wrexham are said to be considering Fruk as one of several possible signings and will need to act quickly if they are to complete any transfer before the window ends.
The interest comes at a time when the club is also considering a deal which would set a new club record for Lyon's attacking midfielder Pavel Šulc.
The two links show that Wrexham wants to increase their attacking strength after missing out on the Championship play-offs the previous season and struggling to finish games this season.
