Wrexham have completed the permanent transfer of Issa Kaboré from Manchester City, following the success of his loan period at Stōk Cae Ras.
The 25-year-old wing-back has agreed to a three-year contract which will see him remain at North Wales until summer 2029. While the transfer fee has not been made public, it has been reported that Wrexham will pay an initial amount of about £2 million, with possible performance-related payments bringing the total to £4.75 million.
After joining Phil Parkinson's team on loan in September 2025, Kaboré became a favourite with the supporters, providing two assists on his Red Dragons debut. His performances last season helped Wrexham secure a 3-2 Championship win at Norwich City's Carrow Road.
In the 2025/26 season, the defender made 32 appearances in total in all competitions; his direct style of play and his ability to deliver dangerous crosses helped him become an important attacking option on the right wing, tallying eight assists in the Championship, which was the highest of any player at Wrexham during the previous season.
When he had finished his loan, Kaboré made it clear that he was determined to help Wrexham take the next step towards their ultimate goal.
"He is really pleased to be back and it does feel good to be here once more," he said.
" All of us know that our aim is to reach the Premier League, and it's my duty to struggle for promotion. I'm fighting for the club, for the fans, and I want to return the love which was shown me last season." His permanent move marks the end of his six-year stay at Manchester City. He joined the Premier League club from KV Mechelen in 2020 but never made a competitive appearance for the first team.
Instead, he acquired a great deal of experience during loan spells at Mechelen, Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica, Werder Bremen and Wrexham. The various countries he played in- Belgium, France, England, Portugal and Germany thus gave him exposure to football before he eventually settled down in North Wales.
Parkinson now has another reliable choice for right-wing-back in the Championship with Kaboré's return, and this has set up strong competition with Danny Imray, who joined the club in the summer and has already impressed in the round-three game of the season, scoring on his home debut. Kaboré's knowledge of Wrexham's tactics, as well as of his teammates and the supporters, should also enable him to make an immediate contribution.
Wrexham AFC are aiming for another promotion push, this time to the Premier League, making it important for the club to bring in a player who has already shown his quality here, and Kaboré is back this time for good.
