Wrexham have little time to dwell on the frustration of defeat at Blackburn, with another demanding Championship trip this weekend. Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Ewood Park halted the momentum from their convincing win over Preston, leaving Phil Parkinson’s side searching for the consistency to turn encouraging performances into a sustained run of results.
The Red Dragons’ attacking midfielder, Callum O’Hare, says attention is on Friday’s visit to Sheffield United, a fixture carrying added significance against his former club. Bramall Lane offers an immediate chance to respond.
“It was a horrible match, and the conditions didn't help. We had plenty of chances but just couldn't take any of them. They had the wind, and we thought we were going to get it second half, but then it swapped.
“We managed to make a few chances, a lot of half chances, and we just weren't good enough to take them."
Wrexham’s 2-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers came as Andri Gudjohnsen’s double punished their lack of clinical finishing. Phil Parkinson’s side created chances at Ewood Park but struggled to turn them into shots that seriously troubled the hosts.
Blackburn threatened early and struck the post through Hayden Carter before taking the lead just before half-time. Anthony Patterson parried Sam Morsy’s shot, and Gudjohnsen converted the rebound to leave Wrexham chasing the game.
The visitors had chances to respond after the interval. Matty James volleyed wide, while Sam Smith headed past the post from Callum O’Hare’s delivery. Blackburn also produced important blocks as Wrexham continued searching for an equaliser.
“We just couldn't get the ball in the net and that's what football is, you need to score, especially when you're on top in a game, and we didn't do that and then they scored and punished us.
“We had a lot of half chances that I feel like we could have done better with. I feel like if one of them went in, we might have ended up taking another one, but that's football. They took their chances today and they punished us." O’Hare said.
Gudjohnsen’s second goal in the 79th minute settled the contest, leaving Parkinson to reflect on an afternoon of wasted opportunities. After beating Preston 4-1, Wrexham couldn't build momentum, and their finishing proved costly once again.
O’Hare joined Wrexham from Sheffield United on September 1, 2026, for an undisclosed fee, reportedly around £ 6.5 million. The attacking midfielder signed a three-year contract with an option for another season, bringing Championship experience and creativity to Phil Parkinson’s squad as Wrexham continued building towards their ambitious Premier League target.
“The Championship's crazy,” O’Hare said. “I don't think anyone can predict any of the results; every game's different, but if you get a run together and you get consistency, keep getting three points, that's what matters the most, so that's what we need to do.
“I'm looking forward to going back to my old club. We had good seasons, there are good faces to see, but mainly we just want to get three points and win. It'll be a good game, but we're just focused on getting three points on Friday night because we need them."
Callum O’Hare has quickly become a regular in Phil Parkinson’s side since arriving from Sheffield United in September. He made his Wrexham debut in the goalless draw at Swansea and has since featured in eight Championship matches.
Operating behind the forwards, he has started in victories over Southampton and Preston, offering another creative option between midfield and attack. However, he remains without a Wrexham league goal or assist. Against Blackburn, his cross set up a header for Sam Smith, but the midfielder shared his team’s frustration as chances went unfulfilled in Saturday’s disappointing defeat at Ewood Park.
“I've played in loads of different formations, loads of different positions, and I'm happy to play wherever. I just give my all and just do what I can do.
“I'm getting the chances, which I'm always going to get. So, I feel like once one goes in, then you're getting the chance to keep scoring. So, I've just got to keep pushing to get that."
The midfielder concluded with a message to the supporters who made the journey to Ewood Park.
"It was unbelievable support," O'Hare said. "They are there right to the end, supporting us even at 2-0 down in these conditions. It really is unbelievable support - so stick with us, and hopefully we can get three points against Sheffield United."
Wrexham travel to Sheffield United on Friday, October 30, with kick-off at 8pm, seeking a response to their 2-0 defeat at Blackburn. Phil Parkinson’s side must improve their finishing after Ewood Park produced few rewards from promising attacking positions.
Ben Sheaf’s involvement against Blackburn offers encouragement after injury. Wrexham will need greater composure in both penalty areas to avoid another disappointing away result. With Middlesbrough and Wolves next, Friday offers an important chance to rebuild confidence and build momentum before the international break.
