Despite having already signed Caio Henrique from AS Monaco, Ajax are still interested in a potential move for a Barcelona left-back.
Ajax have been very active so far this summer in the transfer window, and it is expected that the Amsterdam club will still sign a few more players before the window closes.
Having signed Daley Blind, Caio Henrique, Marcos Leonardo, Tolu Arokodare and Julian Brandt, Ajax are now focusing on signing a new no.6, with Edson Álvarez the club's top target, although signing the Mexican midfielder is expected to be difficult.
In addition to a new midfielder, Ajax could move for a new attacker. It has been reported that they are interested in signing a right winger, but may now also be forced into the market for a left winger, with Paris Saint-Germain now in talks to sign Mika Godts. Personal terms are in place between PSG and Godts, and the clubs are now in negotiations, with Ajax demanding a fee in the region of €60 million.
Ajax will likely also be closely monitoring the market for other players in other positions, with Jordi Cruijff keen to provide Michel with a squad that can challenge for the Eredivisie title next season.
Ajax interested in Torrents
Earlier in the window, Ajax completed the signing of Henrique from AS Monaco for a fee in the region of €10,5 million. Daley Blind, who returned to Ajax for his third spell at the club on a free transfer from Girona, can also play at left-back, although he will likely play most of his minutes in central defence. Owen Wijndal provides Michel with another option at left-back, too.
Despite this, Ajax are said to be interested in potentially signing Jofre Torrents from Barcelona.
According to Mike Verweij, Ajax consider Torrents an interesting prospect and is currently monitoring him.
No agreement is in place yet, but Verweij reports that if the player does eventually make the move to Ajax, it will likely be a loan deal with an option to buy.
The Spanish left-back made four appearances for Barcelona's first team last season and started in their recent pre-season friendly against Birmingham City.
Could Wijndal leave Ajax this summer?
Ajax's interest in Torrents could potentially mean that Wijndal will leave Ajax this summer.
Given Ajax has already signed Henrique, it is unlikely another left-back will be signed unless Wijndal were to leave. Various reports have claimed that the Amsterdammers would be prepared to let the former AZ Alkmaar full-back leave if a suitable offer were to arrive.
Given Torrents' lack of experience, he could potentially first play for Jong Ajax before making his debut in Ajax's first team. If that is the case, Wijndal could then stay until Torrents is ready to play regularly for Michel's team.
