Ajax are working on a deal to sign a Barcelona youngster for free.
Ajax have already signed six players this summer, and it is expected the Amsterdammers will further strengthen their squad in the coming three weeks before the transfer window closes.
Ajax are in the market for two wingers, one for the left and one for the right. They are also going to sign a defensive midfielder and a left-back. A right-sided centre-back could also arrive, should Josip Sutalo and Ko Itakura depart. Sutalo is attracting interest from Benfica, who are looking for a replacement for Antonio Silva.
A lot of Ajax's plans for the remainder of the window, however, will be reliant on the future of Mika Godts. The Belgian winger is the subject of serious interest from Paris Saint-Germain, and the Parisians have seen a €45 million opening bid rejected by Ajax. They are expected to soon return with a new offer, and Ajax are said to want €60 million, potentially more. A long-term contract is waiting in Paris for Godts, should the clubs find an agreement.
Ajax are working on a deal to sign Edson Álvarez as the new defensive midfielder, and Noa Lang has been identified as one of the club's top targets to replace Godts, should he leave. Roony Bardghji was also being targeted as a new winger, but he has suffered a long-term injury and will not be moving this summer.
Ajax working to sign Torrents for free
The left-back Ajax want is Jofre Torrents. Ajax have been working on a deal to sign the 19-year-old for many weeks now.
According to Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf, Ajax are hopeful of completing a deal to sign Torrents. Ajax want to sign him on a free transfer, and should he join, he will sign a contract until the summer of 2030.
It would be a low-risk deal for Ajax if Barcelona agree to it. Only if Torrents performs will the Spanish giants receive a transfer fee for the youngster. The performance bonuses can ultimately amount to a maximum of €6 million. For that amount to be reached, Torrents will have to play a considerable number of matches for Ajax.
Could Ajax sign Torrents and loan him out?
There have been rumours from Spain that Ajax could sign Torrents, and immediately loan him out to Celta Vigo.
Ajax already have two left-backs in Caio Henrique and Owen Wijndal. Ajax are open to offers for Wijndal, but various reports claim he wants to stay in Amsterdam.
Given the fact that Wijndal is not in Ajax's long-term plans, Torrents could become the second-choice left-back behind Caio Henrique.
Another possibility is that Torrents will also play regularly for Jong Ajax to get minutes and improve match sharpness.
He has only played a handful of matches in Barcelona's first team, and playing regularly for Jong Ajax, along with some minutes in the first team, could help him adapt to professional football.
