Mika Godts left Ajax this summer to join reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The total deal agreed between Ajax and the Ligue 1 club is reportedly worth up to €55 million: €45 million guaranteed plus €10 million in potential bonuses.

Godts scored 17 goals and picked up 12 assists in the Eredivisie last season. Replacing him was never going to be a simple task, and Ajax held talks over deals for several players.

Ajax's top target to replace Godts was Noa Lang, but Napoli's asking price meant a deal was not financially feasible for Ajax. The Amsterdammers also reportedly made an offer for Brian Rodriguez from Club America, but that offer was turned down after various reports claimed the Mexican club convinced the Uruguayan winger to stay. Borja Sainz was another player Ajax looked at, but that failed to materialise.

In the end, Ajax agreed to a deal to sign Simon Adingra on loan from Sunderland. Ajax also have the option to make the deal permanent next summer for €16 million. Adingra is currently injured, but it is expected the Ivorian winger is expected to return to action soon.

Godts returned to the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Saturday night to say goodbye to the Ajax supporters before the game against PSV Eindhoven kicked off.

Speaking to ESPN, Godts opened up on leaving Ajax and also said goodbye to Ajax fans before Saturday night's game.

"It was wonderful. It was nice to be back at this beautiful and big club for a little while. Very nice to be able to say goodbye," Godts said.

"I look back on my time at Ajax in a very good and pleasant way.

"Of course, just missing out on a trophy is a shame we didn't win one. But I learned a lot, met many wonderful people, and had many good moments. I hope they can win the trophies they deserve this season."

Godts also did not rule out potentially returning to Ajax in the future.

"Who knows, maybe I'll come back someday, and we'll go for the title together," the Belgian winger said.

Ajax's chances of winning the title would have obviously been significantly higger had Godts stayed. His replacement, Adingra, is a good player, and even though he struggled to find form at Sunderland, he had a decent few months on loan at AS Monaco and has more than enough talent to make a big impact in the Eredivisie.

However, Adingra will likely not be able to replicate Godts' output from last season. Ajax do now have Julian Brandt, though and even though the German is a central player, he has the ability to add a lot of goals and assists to Michel Sanchez's team.

Ajax also signed Sofyan Amrabat, who is a quality defensive midfielder, and that is a position Ajax desperately need to improve. The signings of Thilo Kehrer and Marc ter Stegen also add quality and experience to Ajax's defence. Ajax also signed Caio Henrique, who will be very important for Ajax at left-back.

Ajax also signed two quality strikers in Tolu Arokodare and Marcos Leonardo.

While Godts is a huge loss, Ajax have a much better team than they did last season. Winning the Eredivisie will not be easy, but it certainly is possible.
