Lazio have agreed a deal to sign Josip Sutalo from Ajax.
Ajax's priority recently has been selling players to create room for more incomings in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Mika Godts, whom Ajax wanted to keep, has completed his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of €55 million, including all potential bonuses.
Ahmetcan Kaplan has joined NEC Nijmegen after spending the 2025/26 season on loan at the club. Reports claim Ajax will receive a fee of €2.5 million, which could rise to €3 million if all bonuses are triggered.
Ko Itakura has also returned to his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee which could rise to around €5 million.
Sutalo to join Lazio
The next player who is set to leave Ajax is Josip Sutalo. The Croatian defender has endured a turbulent spell in Amsterdam and is now set to move to Lazio.
It was expected that Benfica would pursue a move for Sutalo after selling Antonio Silva, but the Portuguese giants decided to pursue other options, despite reportedly holding a long-term interest in Sutalo. Fulham were also said to be interested, but Lazio have won the race to sign the Ajax defender.
According to De Telegraaf, Sutalo will join Lazio on loan, and Ajax have finalised the paperwork. The Serie A club will cover Sutalo's entire salary and also pay Ajax a loan fee of €3 million.
Lazio will also have the option to sign Sutalo permanently next summer. De Telegraaf reports that the buy-option is worth a fixed fee of € 7.5 million, and that could potentially rise to €12-15 million depending on bonuses. Ajax would then also have a 10% sell-on clause.
Ajax now expected to sign a centre-back
With Sutalo now set to leave and Kaplan and Itakura having already left, Ajax will likely sign a new right-sided centre-back. Ajax's two options in that position are Dies Janse and Aaron Bouwman, and they are both young and quite inexperienced.
The report from De Telegraaf claims that in addition to a right-footed defender, Ajax are also targeting a left winger, right winger and defensive midfielder. Due to the sale of Mika Godts and the large number of departures, Ajax now have enough room on the wage bill to push forward with incomings. A left winger and defensive midfielder are the priority.
Ajax are seriously pursuing a deal to sign Noa Lang, but face strong competition from Galatasaray, who want to re-sign the Dutch winger.
Edson Álvarez was also a top target for Ajax in the no. 6 position, but he is now seemingly closing in on a move to Real Sociedad.
