Kasper Dolberg is starting to find form in an Ajax shirt. After a difficult first season back in Amsterdam and an underwhelming start to this season as well, Dolberg has been excellent for Ajax over the last few games.

Dolberg came on as a substitute against Fortuna Sittard and scored in Ajax's 1-5 win over Limburg against Danny Buijs' side. He then started against Willem II, scoring one goal and assisting two. He kept his place in the starting line-up against Excelsior, and assisted Julian Brandt's goal, which put Ajax 1-0 ahead.

Tolu Arokodare replaced Dolberg after around an hour against Excelsior, and the Nigerian striker scored just two minutes later to make it 2-2. It was his third goal of the season in the Eredivisie, and his sixth in all competitions so far this season. While he did not start against Willem II and Excelsior, he is seemingly Ajax's first-choice striker, as things stand.

Dolberg is second in the pecking order, with Marcos Leonardo currently third. The Brazilian striker moved to Ajax from Al Hilal in the summer for a fee of just under €20 million, but he has struggled so far this season. He has played zero minutes over the course of Ajax's last three games.

In his post-match press conference, Michel Sanchez explained why he decided to start Dolberg instead of Tolu. 

"I think Mokio and Dolberg both played very well as well. We need all the players," Michel explained.

'Tolu had just returned from a period of illness, and Kasper deserved continuity after playing so well in the last match. Moreover, I knew that Excelsior really loves one-on-one pressing.

"I expected Kasper to be able to create chances more effectively. I think we certainly created a lot of chances in the first half. Tolu, Kasper, and Marcos Leonardo are all important players. They will continue to be so in the future."

Dolberg looks like a different player compared to a few weeks ago. During the UEFA Conference League qualifying games, he looked off the pace and was clearly struggling. Against Willem II and Excelsior, though, he looked to be playing with a lot of confidence again.

It will be interesting to see who plays the most minutes for Ajax in the striker position as the season progresses.

Tolu has started the season very strongly. When he arrived, many thought he would be seen as a replacement for Wout Weghorst and would be used as a substitute late in games when Ajax needed a goal. He has, however, proved so far this season that he has a lot of strengths in his game and can certainly start matches regularly for Ajax.

It was assumed Leonardo would be Ajax's first-choice striker this season, given how much Ajax paid for him. However, he has had a turbulent start to the season. His movement is very good, and he therefore regularly finds himself in great goal-scoring positions, but his finishing so far this season has been poor.

Throughout his career, he has proven himself to be a very good finisher, so Ajax will be hoping that it's just a tough phase and a matter of confidence. Once he rediscovers his confidence, he will be a great player for Ajax. The issue he has now is that he is currently not playing at all. He spent the entirety of the games against Fortuna Sittard, Willem II and Excelsior on the bench.

Dolberg's strength is the fact that he is very good at dropping deep, pulling defenders out of position to create space for others and linking the play. He is arguably better at doing that than both Tolu and Leonardo. He therefore offers Michel a different kind of profile.

If Tolu keeps up his current form and Leonardo himself finds form, Dolberg's minutes may be limited this season. At the same time, though, if Dolberg continues to perform as he did against Willem II and Excelsior, he gives himself a good chance of playing a solid number of games this season.
