On deadline day of the summer transfer window, Ajax completed the signing of Simon Adingra, on loan from Sunderland, with the option to make the move permanent next summer.

Adingra missed the games against PSV Eindhoven, Fortuna Sittard, Willem II and Excelsior after signing for the club while injured.

Adingra only played 60 minutes of football for Ivory Coast at the World Cup and played less than an hour in pre-season for Sunderland across two games, with his final appearance coming at the start of August against Wrexham.

After an extended period on the sidelines, Adingra finally made his debut for the club on Saturday night in a 1-1 draw against NEC Nijmegen. Adingra came on for the final 30 minutes and played on the right wing, despite being predominantly a left winger.

Adingra to miss Hajduk Split game

After returning to action on Saturday after over two months out, Adingra could be facing another period on the sidelines.

According to ESPN, Adingra did not finish the game against NEC Nijmegen fit and trained separately from the group on Wednesday.

Ajax have now confirmed that he will not travel with the squad to Split ahead of the UEFA Conference League clash against the Croatian side on Thursday.

Yves Bissouma will also not play against Hajduk Split as he was not registered in Ajax's Conference League squad due to the fact that he was signed after the deadline.

Anton Gaaei also did not train with the group as he continues to recover from an injury. Daley Blind, Caio Henrique and Steven Berghuis are also not fit.

Ouazane must start in Split

With Adingra not fully fit and Oscar Gloukh struggling for consistency, Abdellah Ouazane must start for Ajax against Hajduk Split. He has only started three games in all competitions this season, with the majority of his appearances coming as a substitute.

The Moroccan international has looked extremely impressive in the minutes he has played so far this season and has done enough to earn a place in the starting line-up.

Gloukh has looked bright in games. He is very creative and constantly looks to make things happen, but his end product often lets him down.

Ouazane is still very young and inexperienced, but he has the potential to become one of the best players in the world, and Ajax need to ease him into the role of a regular starter, whether that be on the left wing or in a more central position.
