Oscar Gloukh moved to Ajax in the summer of 2025 from Austrian club RB Salzburg in a transfer worth an initial fee of €14.75 million, which could rise to €17.25 million if all bonuses are achieved.

In his debut season for the Amsterdam club, Gloukh registered nine goals and six assists in 38 appearances in all competitions. Three of those goals came in the UEFA Champions League.

Gloukh has started five out of Ajax's six Eredivisie games this season and produced an exceptional performance against Willem II on Tuesday night as Ajax won 5-1 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Playing on the left wing, the 22-year-old scored a goal and also assisted Viktor Tsygankov's goal, which was his first in an Ajax shirt following his transfer from Girona in the summer.

Gloukh created eight chances, including three big ones during the game and also had seven shots, the most of any player on the pitch. He also completed seven dribbles, which was again the most by any player during the game. He was central to a lot of what Ajax did against the club from Tilburg.

In a post-match interview with NOS on Tuesday night, Gloukh explained that he enjoys playing with Julian Brandt. The German midfielder has made a huge impact at Ajax after joining the club on a free transfer in the summer and found the back of the net once again on Tuesday against Willem II.

"He is a very good player with experience," Gloukh said when speaking about Brandt.

"You can learn from him, and I really enjoy playing with him. We understand each other perfectly. This connection will also be good for the future.

"We know where the other likes to move, and I hope to enjoy playing with him on the pitch even more. I feel very good with him, but also with the others on the pitch.

"We switch positions a lot, because I also like playing in the centre," Gloukh said, speaking on how he and Brandt play together.

"Sometimes you would see him on the wing and me in the middle. We have to continue like that, even against bigger teams. We also have to keep scoring a lot of goals. That is the most important thing."

Ajax have many options on the left wing. In addition to Gloukh, Ajax also have Simon Adingra, Abdellah Ouazane and Oliver Edvarsen.

Adingra is yet to play following the completion of his loan move from Sunderland. He is currently recovering from an injury but is expected to be available for selection soon.

Ouazane can also play more centrally, but has played most of his minutes so far on the left wing and shown glimpses of real quality. His goal against SC Heerenveen was particularly impressive, and he has now also received a call-up to the Moroccan national team for the upcoming international break.

Edvarsen started against Fortuna Sittard but struggled to make an impact. While Gloukh and Ouazane excel in small spaces, Edvarsen likes making runs in behind and is good on the counter-attack. 

Overall, Ajax have a lot of squad depth on the left wing and players of different profiles, but Adingra will probably play the majority of the minutes in that position for Ajax if he finds his best form.

It is also possible that Gloukh and Ouazane could get minutes in the No. 10 position when Brandt is rested.
