Michiel Kramer Defends Geertruida After PSV-Feyenoord Fallout

Former Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer has defended Lutsharel Geertruida following the backlash over his move to PSV, while criticising Jeremiah St. Juste for confronting the defender after Sunday’s 1-1 draw.

Geertruida, who captained Feyenoord after Orkun Kökçü’s departure, left for RB Leipzig in 2024 before joining PSV on loan last summer. The move angered sections of the Rotterdam support, with the defender facing hostile chants during the clash at the Philips Stadion.

However, Kramer believes Geertruida was entitled to celebrate after scoring a goal that was later disallowed.

“I think someone has the right to celebrate when he scores a goal. There’s also emotion involved in such an important moment in a top match,” Kramer wrote in his column for Feyenoord fansite 1908.nl.

The former striker also questioned the confrontation between Geertruida and St. Juste after the final whistle.

“I think that’s something for the camera, showing off like the big boys. I think that’s excessive. I’d rather you show that during a match than afterwards,” he said.

Kramer acknowledged that Feyenoord supporters may be unhappy with Geertruida’s decision but argued that the club’s inability to afford him leaves little room for complaint.

He also defended the PSV player’s right to respond to criticism, including through social media.

“Geertruida is just playing in a PSV shirt right now and is therefore doing his best for PSV. He would do the same in a Feyenoord shirt,” Kramer concluded, urging Feyenoord to prove they can win the title without their former captain.
