PSV face a crucial Champions League test against Club Brugge on Wednesday, November 4, with the Belgian side sensing an opportunity to strengthen their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
Peter Bosz’s team will host Club Brugge at the Philips Stadion after an impressive run of results in Europe. However, the fixture carries added significance for the visitors, who arrive in strong form following a 3-0 victory over RC Lens.
Sporza commentator Tom Boudeweel believes a win in Eindhoven could put Club Brugge in an excellent position to qualify.
“Imagine that Club Brugge can also win in Eindhoven, then it already has nine points. And then qualification is really close,” Boudeweel said.
He pointed to the points totals from previous Champions League campaigns to underline the importance of collecting results early in the league phase.
Nevertheless, Boudeweel acknowledged the challenge of facing PSV on home soil, noting that Belgian sides have often struggled against Dutch opposition.
Yet Union Saint-Gilloise’s previous victory over PSV offers Club Brugge encouragement. PSV were left frustrated in that encounter after missing several major chances before conceding from the penalty spot.
Club Brugge have already collected six points from three matches and scored nine goals. Another victory in Eindhoven would significantly strengthen their qualification prospects, making Wednesday’s meeting a major test for both sides.
