PSV 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk.
PSV began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk.
After weathering the early pressure, PSV looked decent on the ball going forward, but Mendoza's curling strike at the stroke of halftime gave the visitors the lead.
PSV responded quickly after the restart.
Mendoza was booked for a late challenge on Kostić before the hosts finally found their equaliser. Obispo rolled the ball into the penalty area for Dest, who calmly placed a right-footed strike into the bottom-right corner.
The move began with a Kostić throw-in down the left before Van Bommel found Obispo outside the area. Obispo then supplied the final pass for Dest to finish.
PSV were sluggish at times, with Ricardo Pepi ineffective and Bosz having to change his backline with Kostic coming off, which did not help either! It wasn't the start to their European campaign that PSV hoped for, but it was not the worst beginning either.
Another talking point from the game remains the fact that only two minutes of injury time was added in a game which saw eight yellow cards and multiple substitutions, surely an eyebrow-raising decision by the match officials.
Sergino Dest was named man of the match for his overall performance and especially the equaliser at the beginning of the second half.
