Willem II Appoint Former Coach Jurgen Streppel Until End of Season Ahead of PSV Clash

Willem II have turned to a familiar face in their search for stability, appointing former coach Jurgen Streppel until the end of the season.
The announcement came on Wednesday evening, just days before the Tilburg side travel to face PSV.
Streppel returns to a club where he enjoyed considerable success during his first spell between 2011 and 2016. He guided the Tricolores to promotion on two occasions, in 2012 and 2014, and will now be tasked with helping them navigate a difficult period.
His appointment also brings an end to Adrie Koster’s brief spell in charge. The former PSV player had stepped in as interim coach after Willem II parted company with John Stegeman last week.
Koster was on the touchline for the KNVB Cup victory over Helmond Sport on Tuesday, a 4-3 result that secured Willem II’s place in the next round despite a nervy finish.
Following that match, Koster had been asked whether he would lead the team against PSV on Saturday. He admitted there was uncertainty, explaining to Brabants Dagblad: “I don’t dare to say. It could be, I don’t know.”
He also confirmed that he was involved in the search for a permanent replacement, adding that there was no news to report at that stage.
Willem II have now made their decision, with Streppel taking charge ahead of a challenging trip to Eindhoven. PSV host the Tilburg side at 18:45 on Saturday, with Peter Bosz’s team looking to return to winning ways after their 1-1 draw against Feyenoord.
