Kylian Mbappe’s clinical double and Michael Olise’s creative masterclass dismantled Graham Potter’s brave Swedish side, setting up a high-stakes Round of 16 clash against giant-killers Paraguay.

France would have been more than aware that they would have needed to be near their best to avoid Germany and Netherland's fait as they were knocked out in their first knockout game, seeing Paraguay and Morocco qualify.

They found themselves against a very interesting Sweden side, led by Graham Potter, with Les Blues being very aware of the danger the Swedes have with their pace on the counter with Aleksander Isak, Victor Gyokeres and Anthony Elanga.

It wasn't to be for Sweden as France's attacking quality prevailed, with the World Cup top scorer Kylian Mbappe adding another two to his staggering record, and Bradley Barcola was able to grab his second goal of the tournament.

Mbappe's first goal was a joy when a well-worked corner routine found the French captain, where some tidy stepovers gave him the room he was after and slapped the ball past Jacob Zettestrom to open his account.

Barcola got his goal when Olise found him with a well-weighted through ball, nutmegging a Swedish defender to find Barcola in the box. The PSG man took a touch to set himself before burying his shot past Zetterstrom to double Les Bleus' advantage.

The third for Les Blues came when Olise weighted another perfect pass, Mbappe just about kept himself onside, before curling it into the top right corner, sealing France's place in the round of 16 against Paraguay.

It was yet another statement of intent by Didier Deschamps' side, really cementing themselves as the team to be feared most right now in the World Cup. The French have scored at least three goals in all of their opening games.

Sweden just weren't able to cope with the French front line; they had glimpses of causing the two centre halves issues, but apart from Isak's effort straight at Maignan three minutes in, Sweden weren't able to hit the target until the 88th.

This game may become a staple for why teams feel the need to play such a low block when playing against superior opponents. Sweden wasn't scared of France today, trying to put them on the back foot, but that was all that France needed.

That allowed players like Olise, Barcola and all the French attackers to get the space they thrive in, especially the Bayern Munich man who dazzled with another two assists today.

What next for France?

Deschamps and his team will have a four-day rest before returning to action when they have to face up against Paraguay.

Les Blues would have been expecting to play Germany, but after their surprise exit to the South American side, it will be Paraguay for a place in the final eight.

France will know more than anyone to take the competition of Paraguay seriously, with them battling incredibly hard to get as far as they have.

It is hard to look at anyone beating France right now; however, their attack just looks far too good for any side to cope with, and they won't be facing any of the heavy favourites until at least the semi-final.
