Jose Mourinho spoke at the post-match press conference after Real Madrid's 4-1 win over RB Leipzig. The German side tried, but it was not enough to match the hosts, who showed their superiority for large stretches of the game.
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho attended the post-match press conference after coming out victorious with a resounding 4-1 score over RB Leipzig. The German team tried with the resources it had, but Thibaut Courtois, as he has accustomed us over the years, will always be there to save the team. The Portuguese addressed different topics related to the match, such as the team's general performance and whether his players, like Vinicius Jr., are happy.
He began with the feelings this victory leaves him with and whether he feels satisfied about having achieved nine points out of nine possible. "They have played well; the right side has worked very well. We have 9 points, and we are very close to the playoffs, but we are very far from reaching the 15 points needed to qualify directly. In Athens, it will be difficult because two days later we play in Valencia... but it will come," Mourinho said.
He was questioned on several occasions about whether Vinicius is sad with the situation he is currently living through at the club, to which the Portuguese responded: "It is something very personal; I believe you can have a perception, but I believe only he can tell you what he feels. I, as a coach, am happy with what he has done. From Vini, more is always expected; he is decisive, but I have liked his match.
He had more defensive responsibility than the other attackers; he has closed down very well. It is not a substitution because I am not happy; it is because I have a rich bench and I can do things. And you have to get used to me taking off a player who is not playing badly for another who can give me different things. I believe so; he needs the support of everyone, and they have whistled at him away from home, and it is motivation, but at your home it hurts you."
He was also questioned about whether Madrid is currently where he wants it to be. "Nothing is where I want it, but we do better things now than before. Today there is a goal that I do not like, which leaves the match open for you to win it. The goal we conceded today is from a comfortable one, and I do not like it," he responded.
Finally, he responded briefly to the topic of the refereeing appointment for next Sunday's Clasico, which is already known, without respecting, once again, the 24-hour rule. "It comes to me out of context, but it must be official 24 hours before the match. I do not like this type of information; I do not like it coming out now. I am not referring to them," he added.
Now then, the next appointment is Sunday, Oct. 25, in a new edition of the Clasico against Barcelona. The Cules come from falling against Paris Saint-Germain in France; the merengues come from routing RB Leipzig at the Bernabeu. Now, they will have to face each other at the Bernabeu to define who is better in footballing terms today.
