Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 4-1 at the Bernabeu in a strong performance in which the Whites never faced real danger. Arda Guler, Yan Diomande and Kylian Mbappe led the attack on Sunday.
The first fifteen minutes of play were a clear example of what was already expected from the match. Fourth against fifth place, a fairly even match where the ball was in midfield most of the time. Yan Diomande was Real Madrid's most dangerous player down the left flank and tried on multiple occasions to combine with Kylian Mbappe, but so far they had not been able to successfully finish a play.
The first goal of the match did not arrive until the 30th minute, after a play that started from Real Madrid's own area; Jude Bellingham played a long pass with the outside of his foot to Diomande.
Who, not so comfortably, was able to control the ball, drive it a little down the left flank, and give a pass to Arda Guler, who was entering through the middle sector of the field and with his left foot took an excellent shot with a parabola that the Sevilla goalkeeper could not reach and it went in a few centimeters from the crossbar, making it 1-0 momentarily for the merengues.
A few minutes later, specifically in the 37th minute, Mbappe scored a work of art. Diomande played a low pass from the flank to the edge of the box. Bellingham tried to do a backheel, but it looked more like a screen, and the ball reached the Frenchman perfectly, who made phenomenal ball control with which he easily shook off his marker. When Odysseas Vlachodimos lunged at him, Mbappe easily took it past him with a feint and sent the ball into the net. A goal complicated to explain but beautiful to watch.
After the two-goal lead, Madrid ceded a little more of the ball to Sevilla, which had a couple of dangerous chances that Thibaut Courtois stopped with relative ease. The first half ended with a bicycle kick attempt by Endrick, a shot that went wide, but the fans applauded the Brazilian's attempt.
It was not until the 62nd minute that a new dangerous play arose for the Merengues, since after a great play in midfield by Diomande, who filtered the ball to Mbappe, who was brought down by Andres Castrin, provoking a penalty that the Frenchman himself took Panenka-style, making it 3-0. The locals were already routing the Andalusians.
Madrid had put the brakes on the intensity of the match after the great lead it had; however, Lucas Stassin assisted Manu Bueno, who took a powerful low shot that went close to the post. Courtois, no matter how much he stretched, could not reach the ball and lost the opportunity to keep a new clean sheet.
The response to this was immediate: after a ball steal in midfield, Tchouameni gave the ball to Diomande, who from midfield carried the play forward with the ball at his feet and just as he entered the opposing area, he took a powerful shot at the goalkeeper's post, which Vlachodimos could not stop, making it 4-1 in the match and the second goal on the Ivorian's tally.
The last minutes were a formality; Madrid lowered the intensity again, and Sevilla backed off a little due to the great difference there was on the scoreboard. It was not until the 90+4th minute that the referee ended the match, and the merengues again added three points in a great match. The fanbase at the Bernabeu, after several matches, left the stadium happy.
