In a match that at times proved complicated for Real Madrid, Federico Valverde's creativity set up Yan Diomande for his first goal, securing the win for the merengue side.

The match began with an almost absolute dominance by Real Madrid. Arda Guler made a precise pass from outside the area to Alvaro Carreras, who made a diagonal pass to Kylian Mbappe, who took a somewhat forced shot in front of the goalkeeper; however, it hit the post and went out, in what was the first clear scoring play for the locals.

In the 21st minute, Trent Alexander-Arnold made an excellent pass from the edge of the merengue area to three-quarters of the field, which Mbappe controlled well, entered the area, and made a cut to shake off the Villarreal defender and be face-to-face with the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the Frenchman's shot was again not the best and went directly to where Peter Gulacsi was, who saved the ball without trouble.

At exactly 45 minutes, without adding any extra time, the referee ended the first half in a wave of boos at the team for the lack of creativity when attacking. The two clearest ones Mbappe had missed; afterward, Guler was seen as the most dangerous element with his through balls. Yan Diomande kept trying to finish a play successfully, but despite the fact that during the first half his flank was the clearest route to attack, no play ended up being really dangerous.

After a second half in which Jose Mourinho made a quite offensive substitution, taking Trent off the field for the entry of Vinicius Jr., it was not until the 62nd minute when, after a great run by Federico Valverde and a subsequent assist to Diomande, it was the Ivorian who sent the ball to the back of the net, making his debut as a scorer at Real Madrid and with a noticeable happiness on his face when celebrating the goal that made it 1-0 momentarily on the scoreboard.

In the 70th minute, Vinicius filtered a great ball to Mbappe, who once again was face to face with Gulacsi, but the Frenchman again shot at the goalkeeper's body. On the rebound, he made a backheel pass to Jude Bellingham, who was entering the area, but the Englishman sent it over the goal.

A couple of minutes later, the most controversial play of the match happened. After a heroic cut by Aurelien Tchouameni following a dangerous play by the visitors. Bellingham started a counterattack down the flank that culminated in a diagonal pass to Vinicius, who had scored the second goal of the match. The team celebrated euphorically; more than anything, Mourinho ran to the opposing goal where his players were to hug the Brazilian.

But after going to VAR, the referee disallowed the goal due to a hair pull that Vinicius himself did to Nathan Saliba. Not only that, but he received a red card, so in a span of three minutes, the Brazilian scored, had his goal disallowed, and was sent off. This caused great annoyance in the player, who went to complain intensely to the referee and had to be intervened by his teammates so that it would not escalate.

With a match that changed drastically due to the numerical inferiority of the Merengues, it was in a counterattack orchestrated by Valverde that he gave a through ball to Mbappe so that he could be face-to-face with Gulacsi for the fourth time in the match, but unfortunately, his shot was again stopped by the Hungarian goalkeeper. Madrid was locked in its area, containing the visitors' attack.

In the final minutes, with Real Madrid playing without clear attacking intent and repeatedly wasting time and locking themselves into a defensive shell, the referee blew the final whistle, and they took the 3 points. An obligatory task that culminated successfully with the costly loss of Vinicius, and we will be attentive to see if his suspension will be only one match or if there will be more for a possible insult to the official.
