According to high level reports from the UK media on Friday, the 24th of July 2026, Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
At the moment, the headline dominating the news when it comes to Real Madrid is the potential signing of Rodri from Manchester City. Earlier on today, we aggregated the news that the club were confident on securing his signing.
Well, it looks as if there is another big signing that the club are willing to make. Indeed so, as David Ornstein of The Athletic is this evening (the 24th of July) reporting that Real Madrid have entered the race to sign RB Leipzipg winger Yan Diomande.
He states that Los Blancos and the Bundesliga side are in club to club talks. It is also mentioned that PSG retain their interest, and the player chose them as his next destination, but they are “not yet at (the) level of finance required”.
Wow. Very interesting indeed. Sort of out of nowhere? Can’t remember any links to Diomande in the past. As touched on, PSG have shown a serious interest, as well as the likes of Premier League side Liverpool. But not Real Madrid until now.
Interesting, it was said earlier this week that Diomande - who has played on both wings plenty of times in his career - prefers to play on the right hand side, which bodes well considering how much more the club need a right winger than a left winger.
This perhaps suggests that the club have given up on their interest in Michael Olise of Bayern Munich, at least this summer anyway. Truth be told, the Frenchman feels like the better fit in the Real Madrid attack.
With Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe, you already have two incredible, blistering outlets. A ball to feet player - like Olise - complements them very well. Diomande less so, even though he is clearly a very good player with enormous potential himself.
Still, the club certainly need a right winger of some kind. Rodrygo probably will not be seen until the new year, and you don't know what level he is going to be at after an ACL injury. Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono are not really wingers, and the latter could leave the club anyway. Maybe we will see Jose Mourinho use Federico Valverde as a right winger, and there is the option of Endrick too.
Nevertheless, although the Ivorian will not be cheap either, he would certainly be a lot less expensive than Olise, and therefore perhaps more viable. Let’s see. Certainly a rumour that has caught many by surprise.
