According to high level and highly credible reports on Wednesday afternoon (the 5th of August), Real Madrid have finally found a breakthrough for Yan Diomande.
Alongside the potential signing of Rodri from Manchester City and the contract situation with Vinicius, the biggest talking point in Real Madrid circles recently has been the saga regarding Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig.
More than one week ago, in fact around 10 days ago, Italian transfer journalist used his "Here we Go" catchphrase to imply that a deal was on the verge of being completed. Yet, fellow journalists said otherwise and one even called him out.
They were probably right to do that, really. Considering that a whole 10 days after Romano said 'Here we Go', Diomande was training with the German side (today), suggesting he did indeed jump the gun.
Nevertheless, there is finally, at long last, some good news to bring you all. Indeed so, as Mario Cortegana and Seb Stafford-Bloor of The Athletic have this evening (Wednesday the 5th of August) reported that an agreement has been reached between Real Madrid and Leipzig for the Ivory Coast international.
They state that the deal will be a guaranteed 125 million Euros, plus another 15 million in add ons, with some easily achievable, and others harder. The player has been given permission to travel to Madrid for a medical.
Interestingly, the report mentions that the teenager had initially chosen PSG as his preferred destination this summer, but changed his mind to Los Blancos as the window progressed.
Another thing worth mentioning is the report says that the club see Bernardo Silva as a central player, regardless of the fact he often played on the right for City. That is definitely a good thing at his age, and opens up that right wing role for Diomande to take, who can also play off the left if and when needed. Something worth keeping an eye on if Vinicius does end up leaving.
This will be the club's sixth signing of the summer transfer window, after Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool via free agency), Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan), Silva (Manchester City via free agency), and Carlos Espi (Levante). There is hope that Rodri will become the seventh signing.
So, at last, Diomande will become a Real Madrid player. Although it does feel like it has gone on for ages, this should be wrapped up with still another two weeks or so remaining before the start of the season, which is ample time really. Good stuff from the club. Let's see.
