Real Madrid's next big hope, Endrick, who is currently on loan at Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais, has offered his own thoughts on modern football
Real Madrid teenage sensation Endrick is seen by several supporters as the future of the club.
Although it was a tough first 18 months for him in the Spanish capital, he has been thriving on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon. He has already played more minutes for them than he had in a year and a half at Real Madrid.
On top of that, he has already scored eight goals and provided seven assists, whilst putting in good performances whether being played up front or on the right wing.
In the past, Endrick has referenced Neymar as one of his idols. He has followed the 34 year old's path by playing for one of the El Clasico sides as well as playing over in Ligue 1.
In a recent interview with French outlet, SO FOOT, the youngster referenced the Santos forward as a sign of where modern football has gone: "Football in 2011 is not the same as today's football. Some players still try new things, like Vini. But we won't see someone dribbling past the entire defence like Neymar used to do ever again."
Well, some very interesting comments from the 19-year old. You can tell that, despite his young age, he is a very mature player and person. This is also shown by how he is already speaking French in interviews. Perhaps this interview was also in French.
He can also speak English, despite having never lived in England. This shows just how dedicated to his craft he is. This can only be encouraging, and suggests he is not someone to be complacent and get ahead of himself, despite how talented he clearly is.
As for the comments here, it is hard to disagree. Football does feel less individualistic as it used to be. Fortunately, there are still some players who play like those of a previous era. Vinicius - as Endrick mentions - Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, and so and so forth.
But indeed, it certainly does feel like there are fewer and fewer examples. Many attribute this to the rise of Pep Guardiola and his JDP style of play, with some saying this discourages individuals to express themselves.
Another thing to point out is how Endrick refers to 2011. He would have been five back then. This would suggest he has gone and watched a lot of footage of games from that era. More evidence that he is extremely dedicated.
