The Real Madrid presidential candidate has made a strong promise to Real Madrid fans and members if he is to be elected the new president of the club

This Sunday, June the 7th 2026, we will find out who the new president of Real Madrid CF will be.

The two candidates are long standing president Florentino Perez, and Enrique Riquelme, who you will have heard a lot about in the media of late.

As tends to happen, both of them have made promises should they be elected this weekend. There has been the usual toing and froing between them both, criticising each other whilst making their own claim at the same time.

On Wednesday evening - the 3rd of June 2026 - Riquelme has made his strongest promise yet. Indeed, as he has stated the following: "If Erling Haaland and Rodri don't join me Real Madrid with me, I will pay 100% of the membership fees for all 100,000 Real Madrid members."

Meanwhile, he made the same promise by stating that Real Madrid will never be sold to external investors if he is president of the club. So, some very strong words all round.

However, this can often be political speak. People will make promises to try and win an election, and will then try and say something like "Well, I did say it depended on X and Y", etc, etc. So, there is definitely not a guarantee that he would stick to his words.

Nevertheless, it would be very interesting to see. Imagine two superstars like that at Real Madrid? It would be absolutely fascinating to see how you would fit Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius in the same team. Could you? Is it possible?

Would love to be able to find out one day. Meanwhile, Rodri feels like a signing that the club have needed ever since Toni Kroos left in the summer of 2024, and even more so after Luka Modric's departure just one year later.

Truth be told, however, all of this feels moot because in reality, it feels almost uncertain that Riquelme will win. You've seen the public support of Perez from several, high profile ex players of late. Gareth Bale earlier on today is just one of many examples of this, posting a photo of him with Perez and a caption of "El Mejor" (The Best).

But, you never know in football, and in life, so let's see what happens. There will be plenty more stories in the coming days ahead of voting day, we can be sure of that. Stay tuned for more updates.
