A figure who's been at Real Madrid forever, someone really important to how the club works, might be on his way out. And honestly, it could shake things up big time.
We already reported that a revolution was being prepared within Real Madrid for this coming summer. Even more so under this scenario, in which the team could end up without winning a single title. LaLiga is practically ruled out after Saturday's loss in Mallorca, and the Champions League is almost a pipe dream after last night's 1-2 at Santiago Bernabeu against Bayern Munich.
Revolution starting on the bench, where Arbeloa's continuity is almost impossible, especially in this scenario of ending without titles. But also within the white club's structure. And here is where the departure of a historic figure of the white club could occur.
This is the club's current general director, Jose Angel Sanchez, who is also been a board member of the current Board of Directors since the last reelection of Florentino Perez as president of Real Madrid.
We are talking about one of the people who has worked the longest at the club under the current presidency. In fact, he joined Real Madrid as marketing director in 2000 when Florentino Perez himself arrived at the club for the first time after defeating Lorenzo Sanz in the elections.
In 2006, he assumed the general direction of the white club when Florentino Perez decided to resign, and Ramon Calderon came to the presidency. A position he has held ever since. Before that, in 1992, he became the commercial director of Sega in Spain, a position he held until 1995, when he assumed the general direction of the Japanese video game multinational for southern Europe.
His departure falls within the new scenario in which Anas Laghari is the closest and most trusted man to the white club's president. Who encouraged him to try to push forward the Super League project that ultimately failed, but which now seems like ancient history, given the image last night of Aleksander Ceferin sitting in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabeu next to Florentino Perez.
What is clear is that significant structural changes are being prepared at the white club in the coming months, and one of them could be the appointment of Jose Angel Sanchez as the emblematic figure, a move that would send shockwaves through the organization.
