The former Real Madrid player is seemingly open to a return to the Spanish capital in a new role.

For decades now, Real Madrid has been home to some of the greatest players in history, and that tradition is likely to continue in the coming years.

However, Los Blancos' squad from the last decade holds a special place in the hearts and minds of their supporters.

Three players from that set of players won the Ballon d'Or, as Cristiano Ronaldo won four out of his five golden balls while playing for the Whites, whereas Karim Benzema and Luka Modric won a piece each.

All three of the above-mentioned players still speak highly of their days at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the century-old club makes sure its doors are always open to its former players.

Modric, who was the last of the trio to leave the club, was rumoured to be thinking about retiring from professional football and was linked with a return to Real Madrid following the World Cup.

But Modric's recent contract renewal with his current club, AC Milan, seemingly put an end to those rumours, as he will now stay at the club at least for the remainder of this campaign.

Now, during an interview with MARCA, Modric has seemingly announced his desire to return to the Spanish capital, probably in a new role.

The former Los Blancos star talked about the possible return, saying, "I'd love to return one day, but I don't want to return just to return, just to be there.

"I want to really help Real Madrid; I want to be useful to the club, not just sitting there doing nothing.

"Real Madrid gave me everything, so I'll only come back to work FOR Real Madrid, not just work at Real Madrid."

Certainly, there are no talks of such a move as of now, but with the connection both Modric and Los Merengues' new manager share, a probable return for the Croatian international is never ruled out.

The veteran midfielder will turn 41 next week and might just start to think about hanging up his boots at the end of the season.

But there is absolutely no doubt regarding the passion and quality that he brings to the field during every game.

Modric left Los Blancos after setting the record for the most trophies won while wearing the royal white shirt, winning 28 trophies during his time at Real Madrid, including six Champions League titles.

Hopefully, if the veteran midfielder actually decides to return to the club in the coming years, he will add a few more to his name in the future.
