Pundit Jorge Valdano explains how Rodri would have revolutionized Real Madrid if he hadn't signed with FC Barcelona instead.

Real Madrid managed to make great additions for the season in this summer transfer window, but if there was one that slipped through their fingers, and according to experts, will make them regret it in the future, it's the signing of Rodri Hernandez.

On Sunday, Real Madrid finished the preseason with a great victory, in which some of their new signings debuted, even if only for a few minutes. Although the victory left a good taste in their mouths, the situation now feels more bittersweet.

For months, the Merengue club had been on Rodri's radar, asking questions here and there, and some even said that the Spaniard's dream since childhood was to play for Real Madrid.

Even a few years ago, the offensive midfielder was waiting for an offer, but in the end, that offer never came.

The roles were reversed this summer because the white club kept insisting on the former Manchester City player, and even so, it seems they were never fully convinced about whether to sign him.

Finally, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced through X (Twitter) the famous 'Here we go,' confirming the arrival of Rodri but to none other than FC Barcelona.

According to Romano's reporting, Barcelona signed Rodri for a €60M fixed fee plus €16M in add-ons with a four-year deal.

Real Madrid fans and those close to the club exploded. The situation didn't warrant a muted response; between disappointment and acceptance, several experts began to analyse it.

Speaking to Movistar Plus+, former soccer player and analyst Jorge Valdano firmly expressed that it is a strategic signing by Barcelona.

"It seems to me that it is a strategic signing by Barcelona. It will not influence Barcelona's game too much, although it will emphasise everything Flick proposes; but at Real Madrid, it would have revolutionised the team's game," Valdano said.

Jorge Valdano also laments the quality of play that the Merengues could have had if they had signed him. Rodri could have had the opportunity to revolutionise Real Madrid by improving the environment.

"The ball would have reached the forwards earlier; it would have reached them better. That type of influence that players have who do not have so much of an effect on the goal, but rather an effect on the game. For that, he is the best player in the world," Valdano said.

Despite the Madridistas' sorrow, Rodri seems very happy, saying it has been a dream to play for Barcelona and that he is willing to take the team as far as winning the next Champions League.

Whether it will be a problem to have let this signing go, we will not know until the season progresses. For now, the new Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, remains calm, focused on his key signings and how they have been developing with the team.
