Jose Mourinho halts Gonzalo Garcia's exit from Real Madrid to evaluate the forward's potential despite Real Sociedad's interest.
Being part of Real Madrid's starting lineup requires effort and dedication to earn the coach's trust, and although your on-field performances are good, many end up relegated to an uncertain future at the club.
Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia has been a regular substitute on many occasions, yet when he is chosen, he performs very well; he has accumulated far more matches as a substitute than as an undisputed starter.
His future seemed distant and uncertain, especially since the end of the 2025/2026 season. But despite all forecasts, Garcia's story, 22, just took an unexpected turn this week.
The new Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, has intervened in the possible departure of the club to secure more minutes for the Spaniard.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Portuguese has halted any ongoing negotiations involving the young star until he can carefully evaluate how he performs with the first team.
Apparently, Mourinho is aware of Garcia's skills and will take the time to analyze his situation before making any other definitive move regarding his future.
In the 2025/26 season, Garcia stood out within the team for being a player who knows how to detect goal-scoring opportunities very easily, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists.
Despite having to compete for the starting role with big stars, Garcia is young and can further polish his virtues, especially those that allow him to save important matches, as he has already done in competitions such as the Copa del Rey or the FIFA Club World Cup.
Awaiting a response from the coach, Garcia will keep at bay the clubs that were interested in him, such as Real Sociedad, which showed interest in the Spaniard, according to journalist Jorge Picon.
What I am told is that Real Sociedad is quite interested; we will see how this matter ends.
Real Betis is another interested club, as the forward perfectly fits the profile Manuel Pellegrini values for his attack.
Although they are also looking to sign Garcia's teammate, Real Madrid left-back Fran Garcia, the signing of Gonzalo will now be complicated, not only by the large fee the club is asking for him but also by Mourinho's order to stop all negotiations.
In any case, with several Spanish clubs interested in Gonzalo, for now, his destiny is in the hands of Jose Mourinho, and for that, he will have to prove to him that he can compete for that starting role.
