Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe scored France's winning goal but came off injured on the same play. He had to be substituted and left the field limping, setting off alarms at Valdebebas.
Alarms are going off in Madrid since its scorer, Kylian Mbappe, left the match between Turkey and France, corresponding to Group A of the UEFA Nations League, injured. It was the 54th minute when, after an error in the Turkish national team's build-up, Michael Olise stole the ball and assisted the merengue forward, who, in his faithful style, received it well and took a low and powerful shot at the goalkeeper's post.
This meant the first and only goal of the match, but it was also Mbappe's last play, who ended up limping after the goal and receiving medical assistance. The medical team requested the substitution from Zinedine Zidane's bench after seeing how the forward fell, lying on the grass with gestures of discomfort on his face.
He had to leave the field without being able to properly put weight on his left leg. He did so with a visible gesture of discomfort due to the pain he felt in his knee. In his place, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, Desire Doue, had to come in. At Real Madrid, this only causes concern, since it is the same knee that had been giving the Frenchman problems during the previous season.
In the post-match press conference, Zidane said: "Unfortunately, Mbappe's injury is not going well. I think he is going to have to return to Madrid. We are not going to take risks. He suffered a hyperextension in his knee when shooting. It is not exactly a good sign for him to be able to keep playing."
In this way, he joins his national teammate, Ibrahima Konate, who was injured in the training session prior to the match against Turkey, and Federico Valverde, who was diagnosed with a knee sprain after the studs-up challenge received from Atletico de Madrid player Lee Kang-in. This deprived him of playing in this international break.
Without a doubt, the panorama becomes gloomy for Jose Mourinho, who had barely been able to reduce his injured list to three: Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo and Eder Militao. Now it increases again, and not with just any names, since we are talking about three undisputed starters.
The good thing about this is that there is still a little more than two weeks left before Real Madrid sees activity again in LaLiga, when on Oct. 10 it hosts Villarreal at the Bernabeu. But, without a doubt, the match in which they will need all their important players ready and in great physical shape is the Oct. 25 El Clasico, since they will face possibly the most powerful Barcelona of recent years at the Camp Nou.
