Former Real Madrid legend Luka Modric reflects on his time at AC Milan, putting both clubs on the same level.

Real Madrid saw one of its great legends leave in the middle of last year, the great Croatian player, Luka Modric.

The now 40-year-old midfielder made the decision to leave the Merengue club for A.C. Milan after a long stay at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2025.

This decision surprised several fans, as Luka Modric had open doors to other clubs offering him large sums of money.

The answer seems simple. The Croatian knows the Italian club is recognised as a club of great merit. Of course, like every team, there are ups and downs, but that doesn't detract from the greatness the Rossoneri have achieved.

Speaking to AC Milan's official media, Luka Modric reflected on his time with the Italian club and even mentioned his former club.

"I played for Real Madrid, the greatest club in the world, but I see that Milan stands on the same level. When you come here, you'll realise that for yourself," he said.

During 13 seasons with Real Madrid, Modric won titles and victories that many young players would dream of. Although in football it's common to say that after 30 your performance and on-pitch involvement will diminish, he defied that idea.

Despite his age, the white club legend continued to start every match, and his statistics only rose with each passing season. But all good things come to an end, and now, on separate paths, Luka has the same ambition with his new team.

According to what he continued to explain, Modric admits that now that he is a veteran, this has benefited him because, in his view, he had the opportunity to decide where he wanted to go after leaving Real Madrid without pressure.

Modric also revealed that he had to talk with his family and listen to his body to see whether he still had the passion and energy to play one more season at Milan, and after reflecting, he assured that he was ready to continue.

"I talked it over with my family and decided to stay. Everyone mentions my age, and some players are half my age, but I don't think about it. They make me feel younger and encourage me to compete with them," Modric said.

The mark Luka Modric left will be remembered by all fans, and far from causing discomfort among some people, the comparison between the teams is met with gratitude from most for the feats and saves he delivered during his time at Real Madrid.
