Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says at a post-match press conference after the win over Racing that the penalty should never have been awarded, admitting the team is improving even though they are not yet at 100%.

Real Madrid comfortably beat Real Racing Club (0-3) in the La Liga match this Sunday, and although they came out victorious, there was a controversy that coach Jose Mourinho came out to speak about.

The Spanish team dominated the Verdiblancos for most of the match, but things got tight at one point, and the referee awarded a penalty to Racing. After VAR review, the referee ruled it invalid.

This didn't leave the Madridistas looking good, and Racing fans went crazy because the penalty wasn't awarded as valid. At a press conference, Jose Mourinho touched on several topics from the match, but also took time to comment on the penalty drama.

The coach first assured that he has always really liked the atmosphere at El Sardinero, since they do not limit themselves to watching the spectacle but rather participate and create a very difficult climate for the opposing team.

"People do not know that it is not a penalty for Tchouameni because of the deflection, because the ball comes off the... body. It is never a penalty. When the referee awarded the penalty, I stayed calm. But later I saw it on the iPad, and I said, 'If VAR does not sleep, it is not a penalty,' the coach commented.

Speaking about scoring the winning goals in the first half, Mourinho admitted that although Real Madrid was winning, they were still in danger because the opponent was very competitive.

"It is a match that can be won 0-4 or 0-5 with the chances in the second half, but it also could have gotten complicated, because in the first ten minutes they had a couple of situations with Zabiri, crosses to the near post. I never considered the match settled. But we did come out strong, playing well, with judgment."

The Portuguese coach also praised the strong performances of Jude Bellingham and Yan Diomande, who stood out most in the match. Mourinho says he is happy with the result but that they should have scored more goals.

"In my opinion, they should have scored more goals with the chances we had. But we improved. In a low block, the team knows how to compact. I am happy with the growth. And you are right that when more offensive players do sacrifice work, it is a positive message to the team," he said.

Finally, Jose Mourinho admits the team is still not at 100%, but things are now progressing gradually, with a strengthening player-coach relationship.

"I have been understanding things that I did not understand on the first day; the players understand my character as a coach better, because my character as a person is secondary. They understand what, for me, is non-negotiable. There is a good human empathy, let's say. A good player-coach empathy. We are fine," Mourinho assured calmly.
