According to a recent report, Jose Mourinho had a disagreement with Real Madrid over a €150 million bid for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez.
Benfica has now officially announced Jose Mourinho's departure and confirmed that he will be joining Real Madrid as their new manager.
Los Blancos are expected to announce the move officially within the next 24 hours, but that hasn't stopped the veteran manager from beginning his work while we head into the summer transfer window.
The Whites have reportedly agreed terms with Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate to bolster their defense, and Mourinho is rumored to be behind both moves.
The Portuguese manager is now all geared up to start his second stint at the legendary club, and the next few months will be crucial as Los Blancos looks to bring in some crucial reinforcements before the start of the new season.
Mourinho's return to the Spanish capital depended largely on the freedom he would be given in team building and in having his say on the players the club decides to bring in.
But a recent report from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Madrid Universal) suggests that the new manager didn't approve of Los Blancos' recent bid of €150 million for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez.
Now, as per the report, there are two sides to that story: one that claims the Whites notified the veteran manager of their intention to submit the bid, but Mourinho was not in favor of that decision, and apparently, Los Blancos went for it anyway.
The other side of the story, from those close to the Portuguese, claims that Mourinho was never informed of the controversial move and only learned about it when the decision was made official for everyone to see.
Mourinho was, as expected, unhappy with the Merengues' rash decision, which has now turned into a social media battle between the city rivals. Los Blancos have refrained from replying to Atletico's recent banter, but the hint of humiliation still lingers.
Of course, the chances of bringing in Alvarez now look all but over, at least for the period of this summer, but the Whites will certainly not back out from making any such extravagant offers in the near future, as a plethora of reports even went on to suggest that Michael Olise was their main target man prior to their bid for the Argentine forward.
But one thing is for sure: the club is now likely to consult with their yet-to-be-announced manager before making any such offers in the near future.
