According to reports out of the Spanish media two days before the clash at home to Sevilla, Real Madrid central defender Eder Militao is set to be involved for the game on Sunday evening.
On Sunday evening, Real Madrid will host Sevilla on match day nine of the La Liga season, sandwiched in between two UEFA Champions League games.
Having only had Antonio Rudiger and Ibrahima Konate available last week against Villarreal, Jose Mourinho will delighted to be able to count on fellow central defender in Dean Huijsen for this one, after he served his one game suspension following his clumsy red card against Atletico Madrid in the derby just before the break, which already feels like a long time ago.
Well, believe it or not, Mourinho may have another centre back that he can bet on for the clash with Sevilla this weekend. Indeed so, as it is being reported by Spanish journalist Rodra (via MadridXtra) that Eder Militao is set to be called up for the game.
The squad that gets announced the day before the game does not always mean the match day squad for the game itself, as it gets trimmed down by the manager, and basically accounts for any late illnesses, injuries and so on and so forth.
However, if the Brazilian defender is included in the match day squad against Sevilla, it would be the first time he has done so since all the way back on the 21st of April, in a 2-1 victory at home to Alaves under Alvaro Arbeloa.
After that game, he underwent hamstring surgery that sadly ruled him out of the FIFA World Cup with his native Brazil, and the start of the season with Real Madrid. However, it looks like his return is just around the corner.
Even if Militao is included in the match day squad, it does feel unlikely that he will play a part, unless it is the last few minutes of the game with Real Madrid comfortably ahead. Even then, if the points are safe, potentially risking any aggravation to the injury could be damaging. Then again, minutes for sharpness will be required at some point.
Still, it is great to ease him in. Perhaps an appearance on the bench against Sevilla, and then a cameo off the bench against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, again, depending on the game state in the second half. We shall see.
Either way, it is great to have someone with the talent of Militao back involved. Who knows, maybe, just maybe, we will get an appearance in El Clasico next weekend.
