Despite what Real Madrid's fans say, the board wants a coach with a Barcelona past and a Blaugrana soul. That would be one of the biggest headline-grabbing hires in years.
The uncertainty among Real Madrid's fans continues to grow over who will be the new coach for next season, after a campaign in which Xabi Alonso fell short, and Alvaro Arbeloa has not fit in amid recent setbacks.
There are various coaching options in which Luis Enrique appears as a possibility, but it seems impossible. The one who has been named the second favorite behind Arbeloa for next season is Jurgen Klopp, according to ESPN.
In the German's case, it is more feasible that he could arrive at the Merengue bench because of the area in which he currently works as global head of football for the Red Bull Group, in addition to meeting the requirements in both track record and presence.
Likewise, the Spanish media reports that Alvaro Arbeloa appears to be the main candidate, but notes that the last five losses in 19 games at the helm have made the possibility of his staying on the bench fade, so there will be a new coach.
With two losses in the last week, the most recent against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid has already accumulated 11 losses this season, five in LaLiga, four in the Champions League, one in the Copa del Rey, and one more in the Spanish Super Cup.
Of these 11 losses, six have come under the command of Arbeloa, a very notable statistic since the Merengue youth product has coached only 19 games, not counting the match against Girona. In other words, Real Madrid, under this coach, loses 31.58% of its matches.
Unfortunately for Real Madrid, Arbeloa's arrival failed to change the team's downward course. Under Xabi Alonso, the team played 28 matches, of which only five were losses, meaning they lost only 17.86% of their matches.
Under the command of Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid lost the chance to lift two trophies, the Club World Cup and the Spanish Super Cup. Under Arbeloa, they have only been knocked out of the Copa del Rey, which is a minor consolation. Still, he now has Real Madrid seven points behind Barcelona in the league and, mathematically, is effectively, without any doubt, out of the Champions League.
