According to high level reports on Tuesday evening, Real Madrid have changed their mind on a world superstar and will now proceed to try and make a move.
Before this summer's World Cup had even properly started, Real Madrid had already made moves to sign four players in Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva.
Despite this, there was still unrest within the fanbase, owing to just how poor the past two seasons have been. There has still been a demand to sign a controlling midfielder to finally replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Well, in recent months, Manchester City and Spain national team midfielder, Rodri, has not done well to keep his desire to move to Los Blancos a secret. Despite this, it appeared that Florentino Perez did not reciprocate this interest, and was not planning to sign the player.
However, it looks as if things have now changed. Indeed so, as it being reported by journalist Matteo Moretto - who this morning (the 21st of July) reported that the club were reconsidering their stance on Rodri - that Perez is "now showing himself much more open to the possibility of signing him (Rodri)."
In that report, Moretto also mentions that the club already have the approval of the player (on a move), and that a contractual agreement is very close. However, negotiations have not yet began with City themselves.
Meanwhile, fellow journalist Ramon Alvarez reports there will be no issues on personal terms, and that he will "do his part" to try and sign. However, Real Madrid will "only pay a fair price" to City. This marries up with recent media talk that the signing would not be too expensive, so let's see.
Wow, wow, wow. Very interesting and exciting. It cannot be overstated how much of a game changing signing this would be. We all saw at the World Cup that Rodri still has it, that he is still one of the very best midfielders in the world. He played every game as Spain won the tournament, whilst claiming the Player of the Tournament award. That is the Euros and World Cup that he has won as the MVP in the last two years.
All of that with an ACL injury in between, quite incredible really. He would absolutely transform the midfielder under Jose Mourinho. He now only has 12 months remaining on his contract at The Etihad, so perhaps City could end up being forced to sell? Let's see. But this is certainly very exciting. Finally, Perez has woken up.
