One of Bayern’s biggest prospects recently suffered an injury that will keep him off the field for about three weeks, meaning he will not be able to face Real Madrid.

Bad news for young Lennart Karl, the German talent at Bayern, who said some time ago that his dream was to one day wear the jersey of the team that the Bavarians face next Tuesday.

Bayern Munich has updated the injury status of its squad, and the German gem is on the list due to a torn hamstring in his right leg.

This is a tough blow for Karl, who surely was left wanting to make his debut at what he hopes will be his stadium in the future. Vincent Kompany did not see fit to let him play last Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League tie, and he had to watch the Bavarian victory from the bench.

In optimal form, the German midfielder, who just turned 18, even made his debut for the Mannschaft in the last international window, playing 27 minutes against Switzerland and a total of 45 against Ghana.

He will therefore have to wait for future opportunities, which, given that this is a classic of European football, will surely come soon. That, or who knows if he will fulfill his dream sooner rather than later.

His emergence in football has not been only because he made a mistake when stating his future desires. A statement which, for Bayern, in the words of sporting director Max Eberl, is already water under the bridge.

He is showing his talent, and then some, every time he is given the opportunity. Karl has already become the youngest player in Champions League history to score in three consecutive matches. He will therefore have to wait to continue that magnificent trend and face future challenges.

Moving on to Max Eberl, sporting director, he took advantage of his usual appearance alongside Vincent Kompany in the press conference ahead of visiting St. Pauli to take stock of the win at the Bernabeu.

What is striking, however, is the “aside” he made when asked about the possible penalty on Alvaro Carreras against Michael Olise with the match about to end.

“Two days have already passed. We won at the Bernabeu for the first time in more than 20 years, that is enough for me... but yes, it could have been called. In any case, I think that, generally speaking, the referee did a very, very good job,” Eberl said.

Beyond the controversy, Bayern’s sporting director also took the opportunity to congratulate Kompany on his birthday: “Leading a team and representing a club with this combination of qualities at only 40 years old is truly special.”

He also took the opportunity to defend the signing of the coach... against public opinion: “We tried to evaluate his achievements throughout his coaching career and recognized how ‘Vinnie’ shapes his team’s playing style and tried to adapt it to our squad.

The way he combines training and his personal qualities is extraordinary. He is always kind, open, and accessible. Plus, he knows exactly what he wants and how he wants it on the field.”
