According to recent reports from the German media, Real Madrid - and manager Jose Mourinho in particular - want to sign a FIFA World Cup winning midfielder from Premier League outfit
In recent years, Real Madrid fans have cried out for the club to sign a controlling midfielder, ever since Toni Kroos suddenly retired in the summer of 2024, and especially when Luka Modric departed 12 months later.
To give him credit, Bernardo Silva has helped out in that regard, and was excellent in El Clasico last time out, so fair play to him. However, at 32, he is not really the long term solution, and he cannot play every game. When he is not on the pitch, which has been fairly often this season, sometimes the team has struggled to control the game.
Arda Guler has played in a deeper midfield role in a couple of recent games, and has looked very good there, controlling the tempo from deep. However, you again wonder if that is a long term solution. Although he has time on his side, you feel like he is generally a player who plays further forward.
So, as a result, we could still see the club look for a midfielder on the transfer market. Well, according to Sky Sport Germany (via theMadridZone), Real Madrid are very interested in signing Liverpool and Argentina national team midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister.
They state that he is on top of their midfield shortlist, and Jose Mourinho specifically wants the player.
Well, quite an interesting link, and it is not the first time that the 27-year old has been mentioned when it comes to Los Blancos. So, would it be a good signing or not?
It has been an up and down Liverpool career for Mac Allister. After a somewhat slow start, he then finished his first season (23/24) very well, before having a brilliant season as they won the Premier League in 24/25. Then, alongside many of his team mates, he had an off year last season.
However, Mac Allister has started this season very well, looking a lot physically sharper in the middle of the park, and has already found the back of the net four times from just 12 appearances, showing a real eye for goal, especially from range.
Next summer, the FIFA World Cup and Copa America Champion will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at Anfield, so if there is no extension reached before then, he could be seriously one to look out for on a put price deal. Definitely an interesting one, especially with the previous links.
