According to recent reports from the Spanish media, Real Madrid modern day great, Dani Carvajal, may have found his new club, four months from his emotional departure from the Bernabeu

Last summer, Real Madrid legend Dani Carvajal departed the club after 23 (of the last 24) years at the club.

During his time with Los Blancos, he won four La Ligas, two Copa del Reys, three Supercopa de España’s, five UEFA Super Cups, five Club World Cups and six UEFA Champions Leagues.

Individually, he was named in the Champions League Team of the Season three times, as well as once in the La Liga Team of the Season, and he was also named in the FIFPRO Men’s World 11, the FIFA Men’s World 11, and the IFFHS Men’s World Team for 2024, the year he also finished fourth in the Ballon d’Or voting.

On top of that, Carvajal made 451 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 14 goals. So, without any doubt at all, a bonafide club legend and one of the key players in the modern era.

Despite that, the 34-year old has been without a club since leaving in the summer. Some have suggested he may wind down his career somewhere like in MLS, the Saudi Pro League, or perhaps even join close friend and former team mate, Joselu, over in Qatar.

However, it looks as if his next move will be much, much closer to home than that. Indeed so, as Rubén Cañizares is reporting that Getafe are in negotiations to sign Caravajal.

He says it is not finalised as of yet, with the medical checks key, and the ‘ok’ from La Liga is also needed. But manager Jose Bordalás is “delighted” at the prospect of the signing, and there has been “good raport” in the talks so far.

This would be a pretty cool signing. With Getafe also being based in the Spanish capital of Madrid, some hardcore Los Blancos fans may even pop down to see him in action, having assumed they may well have done that for the very last time already.

Ironically, Getafe’s next game is away to FC Barcelona. Are the scriptwriters working overtime with that one? Truth be told, even if he does officially sign before the game, it feels unlikely he will feature, considering the defender’s last game was on the 23rd of May.

At the moment, Getafe are 11th in La Liga, with 8 points from seven games. Very middling campaign to date. Meanwhile, their maiden UEFA Conference League campaign is about to begin, as they take on Romanian outfit Universitatea Craiova away from home next Thursday.

We will, as always, keep you updated if there are any further developments.
