Real Madrid and France national team midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni, has provided us with an update on the injury he has sustained at the World Cup.
On Saturday night, due to an injury, Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni missed France's 1-0 win over Paraguay in the round of 16 at this summer's FIFA World Cup, a game in which Kylian Mbappe scored the winner from the penalty spot to send the French through to the quarter-finals. Ibrahima Konate was an unused sub.
In their quarter final match up, they will face Morocco in a rematch of the 2022 semi final, which saw Les Blues advance with a hard fought 2-0 victory. There had been hope that Tchouameni would be back in the team for that one.
Well, it appears that may well not be the case. Indeed not, as the player himself has said (via MadridXtra), that his injury is "bad". He did not elaborate as far as we can tell.
Either way, certainly not ideal. Maybe, to give a glass half full point of view, he is just trying to throw Morocco off. To try and bait them into preparing as if he won't play, with the idea that he will have recovered and can come back into the team.
But it is still concerning nevertheless. Not only for his participation in this tournament, but also for the new season at Real Madrid. Now, you may be thinking "Ah well, he will probably leave anyway". But even in that instance, a bad injury could scupper a potential deal, which would not particularly suit anybody.
Let's hope it is nothing too bad. The aforementioned quarter final between France and Morocco will take place on Thursday at 22:00 CET. As it stands, it feels more likely than not that he will miss the game, but let's see.
At the previous World Cup, in Qatar, Tchouameni was the only France player to start all seven games, even starting in the dead rubber third group game against Tunisia, where they lost 1-0. He played the whole 120 minutes of the final, despite the French making seven subs altogether.
So, it is clear that when he is available, he is a crucial part of Didier Deschamps' side. He already has 49 caps for the national team at just 26 years of age.
