Luka Modric has been one the most influential players in Real Madrid's recent history and now the reports are suggesting a probable return for the midfielder to the Spanish capital this summer.
With the departure of Dani Carvajal from Real Madrid, a glorious era for the Merengues came to an end, as the right-back became the last member of the famous Champions League three-peat winning side of the previous decade to leave the club.
It was a period of immense success for Los Blancos as they added numerous trophies to their cabinet and certainly looked to be one of the most lethal squads in Europe.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, etc. dominated World football for a significant period of time but as we all know, every great thing has an end, so did Los Blancos' squad full of stars.
Despite their poor run of form over the past couple of seasons, the Whites will certainly reach the top once again, and for that to happen, they might just be thinking about bringing back some of their old guards back to the Bernabeu.
As a result, the midfield maestro will certainly not dawn the white shirt and dominate matches on the pitch but rather take up a non-playing role in the club. It could be a front office or an advisory role, depending on the needs going into the next season.
This is now the second time in the span of a few months that the Merengues are reportedly looking to bring in one of their former midfielders, as previously it was Modric's partner Kroos who was linked with a post-retirement role at the club going into the next season.
By the looks of it, Los Blancos are looking to inject some wisdom and experience into the club in order to get results out of the squad which has failed to live up to the expectations so far.
While Kroos has already hung up his boots, Modric on the other hand is still looking to leave his mark for one last time at the World Cup this summer.
The 40-year-old played an integral role at AC Milan this season while making 35 appearances for the Italian side, as he scored three goals and two assists since joining them last summer.
But the Rossoneri looked pretty pale without the veteran midfielder during their final phases of the campaign as they failed to qualify for the Champions League and had to settle for a place in next season's Europa League.
Now as Modric looks all set call it a day, the club where he spent more than a decade is reportedly knocking on his door once again but for a more bigger role this time.
