Real Madrid defender Asencio is suffering from bacterial enterocolitis, the fourth viral or bacterial illness of the player so far this season.

Asencio has had to go to a hospital for tests after the gastroenteritis that has been bothering him worsened in recent days, which had already prevented him from traveling to Munich last Tuesday. As advanced by COPE, the center-back went to a hospital to undergo tests after losing six kilograms following several days of vomiting.

Last Tuesday, the defender's absence from the squad for the return leg against Bayern came as a surprise, but the club immediately afterward confirmed it was due to gastroenteritis.

The player, visibly unwell, had withdrawn from training before the trip, and the next day, he could not be under Arbeloa's orders. Since then, far from improving, he has been feeling worse, and finally, the decision was made for him to go to the hospital to undergo tests.

The Madrid club released the medical report on the Canary Islands defender. "After tests carried out on our player Raul Asencio by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with bacterial enterocolitis. Asencio is at home undergoing treatment. Awaiting further updates."

This is the fourth time so far this season that Asencio has missed time due to a viral or digestive illness. At the end of November, he missed the trip to Montilivi due to gastroenteritis, at a time when he was the only pure center-back available on the team, with Alaba and Huijsen injured and Rudiger recently recovered.

In December, a fever kept him out of the Copa match against Talavera at the last minute. In February, the flu kept him out for two days before Real Sociedad's game, although he did make it in time to play.

Asencio's situation is very reminiscent of what Mbappe suffered in the Club World Cup last season. The Frenchman had to go urgently to a hospital in Miami due to an acute case of gastroenteritis to undergo various tests and receive the corresponding treatment.

An illness that kept him out for several days and prevented him from playing the first three matches of the World Cup, after he became very weak and, as in Asencio's case, lost a lot of weight.
