Real Madrid are set to receive €12.5M from Alvaro Rodriguez's transfer to Bournemouth. The 21-year-old's move will activate the 50% sell-on clause Madrid inserted when he left.
La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to gain from the potential transfer of former academy graduate Alvaro Rodriguez to Bournemouth.
According to a report by Mario Cortegana and Jessica Hopkins on The Athletic, Real Madrid will be entitled to receive 50% of the transfer fee agreed upon by Elche CF and Premier League outfit Bournemouth for the permanent signing of Alvaro Rodriguez. With a fee in the region of 30 million euros, which seemed to have been accepted by both parties in the transfer negotiations, Los Blancos will be credited 12.5 million euros due to the resale value rights inserted as a clause when the player left the Spanish giants.
The 21-year-old left Santiago Bernabeu last summer and signed a four-year contract with Elche. Madrid's transfer policies in recent years have remained the same when they have sold their youth academy products. The transfer fee was around two million euros; however, the club retained the right of first refusal, a buyback option, and 50% resale rights.
The Jose Mourinho-led side will lose their other rights posted on the player before this transfer happens in the English top flight. Rodriguez started his career with local academy side CF Global Palamos. He later joined CEF Gironès-Sàbat, playing over there for a year before transferring to Girona's youth outfit. After five years in Catalonia, he joined La Fábrica, winning the 2022 Copa del Rey Juvenil.
The forward featured for Real Madrid Castilla as an integral player of the squad between 2021 and 2024, making 75 appearances and scoring 21 goals. Current Brazil head coach and former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti handed him his senior team debut on 3 January 2023 in a 1-0 victory in the Copa del Rey against Cacarenos.
Rodriguez began his international career with Spain's U18 team and was included in their squad for the 2022 Mediterranean Games, where he played all three matches and scored one goal. He later switched his international allegiance to Uruguay since his father is from the country, making him eligible to play for either nation. The Palamos-born forward has made eight appearances for the South American country's U20 side since 2023, netting five in the process.
Real Madrid are on course to make a staggering 95 million euros turnover from player sales without directly involving themselves this summer, with Victor Munoz and Nico Paz's transfers making around 80 million euros so far.
