Real Madrid would enter the summer transfer window with great urgency, and the right-back position would be one of their key concerns.
The misery shows no sign of stopping for Real Madrid this season, as their recent loss to Mallorca now sees the Whites seven points behind league leaders Barcelona, and winning La Liga looks to be a distant dream for Los Blancos.
Los Blancos is currently going through one of their most awkward campaigns as they relieved Xabi Alonso of his duties at the start of the year following their defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Earlier, Rafa Benitez faced a similar fate in 2016, as the Spaniard was also sacked in January of that year. Los Blancos then brought in Zinedine Zidane to get their season back on track, and the rest is history.
Although the current Los Blancos side looks far off from their predecessors in terms of character and mentality, one player who was part of that magical run and is still delivering for the club is Dani Carvajal.
But it seems this could be the Real Madrid veteran's last season at the Bernabeu, as his performances have dipped sharply, followed by limited minutes at his boyhood club.
With Carvajal's departure looking imminent during the summer, Los Blancos have reportedly started their search for a probable replacement for the right-back.
According to a report from Fussball Datten, the Whites have seemingly set their sights on Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic.
The 26-year-old is known for his versatility at the back, as he can play both right back and center back. After coming through the ranks at Bayern, Stanisic was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 and had the most fantastic season a loanee could have.
During his time at Leverkusen, the Croatian won the famous double under former Alonso, and the defender was also an integral part of the Spanish manager's plan throughout the campaign.
Now at Bayer, Stanisic has developed himself into their first choice right back and is also expected to start against Madrid with the task of stopping Vinicius Junior in his tracks as the Whites look to have a closer look at the player during his visit to the Bernabeu this Tuesday.
Bayern would definitely be reluctant to keep their youth academy graduate at the club for long, as they see him as a potential leader in the near future. With his contract due to expire in 2029, the Germans are likely to hold the upper hand if negotiations take place.
While Los Blancos see Stanisic as the most viable option when compared to Diogo Dalot and Achraf Hakimi in terms of both quality and finances.
