According to reports from the Madrid and Spanish media, Real Madrid young star Arda Guler is set to be rewarded for his fine form with a new and improved contract.

You could make quite a strong case that Arda Guler has been the stand out performer for Real Madrid so far in the early stages of the 26/27 season.

He has started in three of the four La Liga games, and looked good every time. Against Espanyol, he assisted Jude Bellingham, and created seven chances in just 64 minutes on the field.

Then, against Sociedad, he created another big chance as well as five chances overall, before coming on in the 87th minute against Malaga and still managing to find the back of the net in stoppage time of that one.

Meanwhile, his display in the 1-0 defeat at Real Betis may have been his best yet. In just 64 minutes, he created seven chances and another three big chances, completed 5/7 accurate crosses and 6/8 accurate long balls. He was again quite unfortunate to be subbed off.

So, despite the club record deal to sign Yan Diomande, Guler has seemed to make that right wing position his own for the time being, and it looks as if he will be rewarded. Indeed so, as it is being reported by Diario AS that Guler is set to sign a new contract with the club through to the summer of 2031.

They say that the agreement is “close to complete” and that the young Turk will receive a “big salary increase” in the process of signing this new deal at the club. His previous contract was set to run until 2029.

You have to say, very much deserved. Even though the 25/26 season was his third at the club, it really felt like his breakthrough year, and he has taken that form into this season, putting the disappointment of the FIFA World Cup well and truly behind him.

It does make you wonder what the long term plan with Diomande becomes then. It is easy to forget with the Ivorian being a new signing, and Guler being an existing player, but they are of a similar age, with Diomande only being around 18 months younger.

Then, in the number ten role, where the number 15 could also play, you have Jude Bellingham is only 23 himself, and feels like he is in for the long haul. So it does make you wonder how that will work out.

In any case, this is a richly deserved extension and pay rise for a very, very talented young player.
