According to various reports from the media, both inside and outside of Spain, Real Madrid superstar attacking midfielder Jude Bellingham is set to sign a new long term contract with the club.

Back in the summer of 2023, Real Madrid beat a whole host of clubs to win the race for the signature of Borussia Dortmund and England national team midfielder, Jude Bellingham.

His first season at the Bernabeu was absolutely incredible, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists for a total of 36 goal contributions in just 42 games, as Real Madrid won La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.

Since then, the same heights haven’t quite been hit, for a whole host of reasons— lack of form, true, but also injuries and playing through injury to such an extent that he had to undergo shoulder surgery. Plus, the collective decline since 2024 too has not helped things.

Nevertheless, Bellingham has still been a very good player in the most part since then, and did manage 15 goals as well as 14 assists in the 24/25 season, despite the team only winning the UEFA Super Cup, right at the start of the season.

Although it is clear that the silverware, or lack there of, has been frustrating over the past couple of years, you can tell the 23-year old is extremely happy in Madrid and very much loves playing for the club.

Well, that looks to be proven beyond any reasonable doubt. Indeed so, as Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz of Diario AS has reported that Bellingham will sign a new five year contract at Real Madrid. A number of other sources are now also saying the same thing.

The attacking midfielder’s existing contract was due to run until the summer of 2029, so this is a two year extension, set to run until the day after his 27th birthday.

Should the England international see out this deal, he would have been at Real Madrid for a whole eight years, which is a lot for an English player. Michael Owen spent one year at the Bernabeu, Steve McManaman and David Beckham spent four years - by the end of this season, Bellingham will have matched that.

Although it is clear he plays for the biggest club in the world, this news has been met by a little surprise from the fanbase, considering how disappointing the past couple of years have been. You see the chemistry that Bellingham has with the likes of Harry Kane for the England national team, and some may wonder if he wants to play for a club team with more telepathy and collective identity.

Ah well, it is certainly Los Blancos’ gain in any case. Let’s see if a competitive team can be build around him - like it was under Carlo Ancelotti in 23-24 - and hope for similar results when it is all said and done at the end of campaigns.
