The wife of a Real Madrid player posted a scathing message against the refereeing favoring Barcelona on her Instagram stories, only to delete it almost instantly.
After a one-week international break, the leagues returned to action. The most attractive of the weekend was LaLiga, which reached its 30th matchday with the battle for the lead between Real Madrid and Barcelona at a boiling point, even more so considering that the Catalans' match was against Atletico Madrid, a match that ended up stained by refereeing controversy.
As expected, the clash between Atletico and Barcelona was wrapped in several controversial moments, which could not be excused by the central referee, Mateo Busquets, who was singled out for a poor performance that was a factor in Barcelona's victory.
Given the referee's errors, multiple people on social media spoke out, claiming that these errors influenced Atletico's home loss. One of the names that drew the most attention was that of Mina Bonino, the wife of Real Madrid player Federico Valverde.
After images were released showing a possible red card for Gerard Martin, Mina Bonino wrote on her Instagram account: "You have to close the stadium if that is not a red card," accompanied by a photo of the challenge, with the studs showing, from the Spanish player.
Minutes after Bonino posted the story on her social network, she decided to delete it, which further ignited public outrage, leaving the question of why she did so, given that hundreds of followers shared her opinion.
Martin's play ended up being the most controversial in Busquets' match management, as, after reviewing it on VAR, he determined it could not be penalized because Martin touched the ball before the opponent.
After the decision, the match continued, although the anger of those in attendance at the Metropolitano came after Busquets sent off Atletico Madrid's Nicolas Gonzalez, a situation that ultimately made the difference in Barcelona's 2-1 victory.
While all of this was happening, Real Madrid were defeated by Mallorca on their visit to Son Moix, a match in which Valverde himself could not participate due to his suspension for receiving a straight red card in the Madrid derby.
The hope for the Merengues was that Atletico could somehow take points away from Barcelona. Unfortunately for them, this did not happen, and they are now 7 points behind, making the race for the league title increasingly complicated.
