Having really made his breakthrough in the past couple of weeks, Real Madrid winger and record signing Yan Diomande has wowed fans with one particular stat from the 26/27 campaign so far.
Although it was a slow start to life at Real Madrid for club record signing Yan Diomande, he has really found his feet since the extended international break.
The Ivory Coast international scored his first goal for the club in just his third start in the win against Villarreal, with his strike proving the all important goal in a very dramatic 1-0 victory. Considering the team were soon under the cosh with ten men, it was even more important that he scored.
Then, he got another start, his first in the UEFA Champions League, in the win at AS Roma, and picked up an assist. Then, he started again against Sevilla, assisting Arda Guler before scoring a sublime goal of his own late in the game. Two goals and three assists (one against Elche too) in just 549 minutes for the teenager so far.
But, it is not his goal contributions that have been his stand out quality in a white shirt so far. Indeed not, but it is his extraordinary dribbling that has left fans bamboozled at his level.
Incredibly, despite just 759 minutes total played for club and country, thanks to the excellent PopFoot, we can confirm that Diomande has the second most dribbles of any player playing in the top five leagues this season, with 42, six behind the leader, Lamine Yamal.
But what makes this stat all the more impressive is that his success rate is 70%, more than anybody else on the list. For context, Yamal's success rate is 49% - so Diomande has completed just six fewer dribbles in 38 fewer attempts at doing so.
People will think 'Yeah, but dribbles don't win you games - goals and assists do' whilst that is true, they can be very important. They help open up the opposition, they take opponents out of the game. If you dribble past three players you are going to have a team mate in space at the end of it. And with five goal contributions in limited minutes so far, it is clear that the former RB Leipzig man is an efficient player.
He is not the only Real Madrid player in the top 10 list, either. Kylian Mbappe is in fifth place, with 35 successful dribbles at a 58% success rate, whilst Jude Bellingham is in seventh place, with 31 successful dribbles at a 55% success rate. Good to see all round from a Los Blancos point of view.
