Real Madrid defender Eder Militao, who has been out since April, shared a video online showing him training at high intensity at Valdebebas. Could his return be just around the corner?

Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao shared a video on social media showing him working hard at Valdebebas. This clearly aims to speed up his recovery and get him back under Jose Mourinho's orders as soon as possible. For the Portuguese, having more players in his arsenal would be great news.

Let's remember that the Brazilian has not played a match since the end of April, when Madrid faced Deportivo Alaves. With the first half nearly over, Militao entered the opposing area and received a pass from Jude Bellingham on the right flank. However, the pass turned out to be somewhat delayed, which caused the defender to take a somewhat strange shot, stretching his leg abnormally.

The shot hit the crossbar, exciting everyone at the Bernabeu, but Militao felt something instantly and asked the medical staff to come in. The medical team quickly asked for a substitution from the bench and, later, hours after the match ended, it was when the club announced that the Brazilian had suffered a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg.

Practically the same injury he had suffered during December of last year. That is why his surgeon — Dr. Lasse Lempainen, who operated on him in Finland at the end of April — told him he had to have surgery if he wanted to continue his professional career. If he opted again for conservative treatment, the risk of relapse and complete rupture of the tendon was very high, which would end his career as a footballer.

In the end, Militao opted to sacrifice his participation in the World Cup with Brazil to have surgery and comply with the five months of recovery. After this, Real Madrid strongly sought a center-back in the summer market who could replace him with quality, with Ibrahima Konate - coming from Liverpool - being the chosen one and currently forming a good duo with Dean Huijsen in the merengue defensive line.

However, the Brazilian's return would be a welcome boost for Mourinho, who would have another reliable center back available for the squad rotations so necessary in modern football. Of course, it is of utmost importance that his return is not rushed at all. After having made such a complicated decision as missing a World Cup, opting for the operation and already having several months in recovery, nothing should be rushed, and he should be allowed to return when he feels in optimal condition.
