At an event for his new sponsor, On, Kylian Mbappe sat down with Bild to discuss topics ranging from Real Madrid and Jurgen Klopp to Cristiano Ronaldo and his biggest dream.
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe gave an interview with Bild during an event for his new sponsor, On. In it, the Frenchman addresses topics related to, for example, his not signing for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, the rumors that arose during the previous summer that placed Michael Olise at Real Madrid, as well as whether he sees himself as capable of playing professional football until he is 41, like Cristiano Ronaldo.
First, he was questioned about the interest Liverpool had in him in 2017, when it was managed by Klopp. He even personally went to Monaco to speak with him about the football project the English team had, and his mother even visited Liverpool to get to know the city better, as well as Anfield.
"Yes, it is true. It was something special, but great. And, honestly, I would have loved to move there back then. I was not ready yet to leave my country. I wanted to return to my hometown, Paris. I had only played one year at Monaco, and I needed to feel comfortable in a familiar environment. That is why I went to PSG," Mbappe said.
Later, he was questioned about his teammate on the France national team, Michael Olise, who throughout the summer was involved in rumors about his possible arrival at Real Madrid. Some reports indicate it would be for a fee above €220 million. Something that made more than one Merengue fan put their hands to their head.
Mbappe said: "I have been aware of the speculation. But I know that feeling very well: when I played at PSG, there were countless rumors. And I think it would be disrespectful to advise a player to leave. It would be unfair to Bayern. Especially because Bayern is a fantastic club where Michael can achieve great things. But one thing is clear: any club in the world would love to have Michael Olise. He is a great player."
Next, he was asked if he sees himself capable of continuing to play professional football at 41 like Cristiano Ronaldo — who has just been called up once again to the Portugal national team. "Let's be honest, taking into account what country I play for: France will never let me play until I am 41 (laughs). But Cristiano shows that if you are physically and mentally fit, you can play at this high level for a long time. In my case, however, I do not think it is possible," he mentioned.
Finally, before closing the interview, he was questioned about what his biggest dream is, to which Mbappe was direct: "To win the Champions League."
