As Real Madrid try to win their record extending 16th UEFA Champions League title, here is all you need to know about how the league phase scheduling looks.
Earlier on this week, Real Madrid found out their eight opponents in the league phase of the 26/27 UEFA Champions League, when the official draw was made in Monaco in the south of France.
The eight opponents confirmed on Thursday evening were: Inter Milan (home), Arsenal (away), PSV (home), Roma (away), RB Leipzig (home), Shakhtar Donetsk (away, but to be played at Stamford Bridge, London, home of Chelsea), LASK (home), and AEK Athens (away).
So, from then we knew all eight of the opponents, plus which four games would be played at home, and which four games would be played away. However, what we did not know, was the scheduling - the dates, the order of the games, and the kick off times.
However, on Saturday (the 29th of August), UEFA officially confirmed the schedule of the league phase. So, without further ado, let’s take a look.
To kick things off, Jose Mourinho will welcome his former team Inter Milan to the Bernabeu. It is poetic since his final game in charge of the Italian side was the 2010 Champions League final at the Bernabeu itself. That game will kick off at 21:00 on Tuesday, the 8th of September.
As a result of the newly introduced extended international break, the next game is not until over a month later, where Mourinho will have his second reunion. Indeed so, as Los Blancos will travel to Rome to face AS Roma, where the gaffer was in charge for two and a half years between 2021 and 2024. That one is scheduled for Wednesday the 14th of October at 21:00.
Next up after that is a home game one week later against RB Leipzig, where Yan Diomande will face his former side. That one will take place on Wednesday the 21st at 21:00.
Two weeks later brings a trip to Greece to face AEK Athens. That one will kick off on Wednesday the 4th of November, for the first early kick off of the campaign, at 18:45.
That is followed by a home game against Dutch giants PSV on Tuesday the 24th of November, back at the more standard kick off time of 21:00.
The final game before Christmas provides a trip to London to face Arsenal, where Vinicius Jr will come up against the team that tried to sign him. That one is on Wednesday the 9th of December at 21:00.
The penultimate fixture of the league phase will be a home game against Austrian side LASK on the 19th of January at 21:00.
Then, to round the league phase off, another trip to London to face Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge. That one - like all the other 17 games - will take place on the 27th of January at 21:00.
So, there you have it, the league phase schedule in full.
