Following a controversial play in the recent match between Real Madrid and Espanyol involving Vinicius Junior, the Brazilian showed his discontent through an Instagram post.
Last Saturday, Real Madrid made its league debut in an intense match against Espanyol, and, to the surprise of few, Vinicius Junior was again in the spotlight after a play involving him and Cala of the Catalan team. In the 3rd minute of the match, a player from Los Pericos kicked the Brazilian in the back as he was on the ground.
Clearly, both the players and the coaching staff of Madrid were upset by what happened and lashed out at the referee, who did not even bother to show a yellow card to the Espanyol player. Later, in the post-match press conference, the manager of the white team, Jose Mourinho, addressed the issue, since VAR had not intervened in the play and the action continued as if nothing had happened.
After the match ended, Vinicius, visibly discontent with how the referee handled the incident, didn't hesitate to react to a post from the official DAZN account on Instagram showing what happened at that moment. The forward shared the post, adding a comment that says: "Yellow card for VINI!!!!!" (this because he later received it for protesting)
Subsequently, the match ended in a favourable result for the Merengues, beating Barcelona by the minimum (1-2) and, in this way, starting the league in the upper positions of the table. However, it was not a simple match at all, as it had to have its most recent signing, Carlos Espi, score the winning goal in the 90th minute of the match and, in this way, start its title race on the right foot.
What happened only adds to the history of controversies in which Vini has been involved in recent seasons. The clearest and most controversial example was the first leg of the Champions League playoffs, when Benfica and Real Madrid faced off in February for a ticket to the round of 16.
At that time, Vini accused the Eagles winger, Gianluca Prestianni, of having made racist comments to him just minutes into the second half of the match. However, it could not be confirmed because the Argentine covered his mouth with his jersey as he spoke.
This upset the Brazilian too much, and the match had to be stopped for several minutes. As a result of this incident, the Prestianni Law was created, which today punishes any player who covers his mouth when speaking to an opponent with a red card.
